[OOL] Still no modem rental fee for me, but base OOL now up to $64.95

Just got billed for October and still no modem rental fee for me (I'm using a purchased SB6183, but I do have their originally-provided 822G in the closet) but apparently the base price for OOL is moving from $59.95 to $64.95 in November. I'm in Bedminster, NJ - assuming this is across the board? Can I also assume that they'll hit me for the modem fee on top of that at some point as well? (I'll return their modem, there's just been no impetus yet to do so.)

TG1672G/TW modem

I bought a TG1672G/TW modem (I guess /TW means Time Warner) on eBay to use for Optimum and it works fine but I can't seem to figure out how to login to this modem to manage settings, turn on wifi, etc. I have factory reset it holding the reset button for 15 seconds, tried also using the 30-30-30 reset rule. I see the login screen and tried the following credentials but nothing works: admin/password admin/admin What else could it be?

November 1, Rate Increases

“Broadcast TV Surcharge” to partially offset the high costs that broadcasters charge Altice to carry their programming. Starting November 1, existing Basic customers will begin paying this fee as well. • Basic Tier: The current new customer price for basic tier is $19.99/month. As part of a gradual transition to align basic tier rates across the Optimum footprint, the price of the basic tier will increase as follows; $13.95 to $17.95, $16.95 to $19.99, $17.95 to $19.99 • Sports Surcharge: The cost that programmers charge Altice to carry sports content on the Optimum channel lineups continues to increase. To partially cover these costs, the Sports Surcharge paid by all subscribers of the Optimum Value or higher tiers will increase to $6.97 per month, from either $5.97 or $4.97, depending on when the customer subscribed to Optimum. No basic tier customer is affected by the Sports Surcharge.

OOL 16QAM/64QAM upstream

just a simple question. what would be the reason for two out of four upstream channels at 16QAM versus the normal 64QAM ? no, its not an RF issue, i removed the eight port bi-directional amplifier, connected the modem directly to the incoming feed, rebooted the modem and still get the same results despite the RF levels changing to acceptable limits, the bi-directional amplifier was ruled out as the cause. the modem is an arris TM822G with active OV phone. the tier speed is 100/35. the LAN port is connected 1GB full duplex. there are no issues with upload/download speeds and the OV phone. despite the signals being "hot" due to the use of a bi-directional amplifier, its been this way for +5 years without any issues at all. its not known at this time if there is ingress in the line as i have not yet connected the RF spectrum analyzer to check the health of the upstream frequencies but ingress is unlikely at this point.

Optimum Router Blinking Red Lights

I connected the FREE Optimum Router to my cable modem (TG1672G) and for some reason after all the lights light up in green, it goes into this weird blinking arrangement where it has 3 left lights light up in red and then 3 right lights light up in red and then it repeats. Here's what I see: 1. I see the Wifi and can connect to it but no internet access when I connect to the wifi. 2. The green light is blinking on the ethernet cord attached to the router and to my modem so all is plugged in. 3. When I go to router.optimum.net it shows a nice light blue page with the Optimum logo and says an error is temporarily not allowing my router to do something (should have probably wrote that down) and I need to call Optimum. 4. If I plug in my old wifi router into the modem all is well: internet works and wifi works but I think this Optimum router has better range than my old router so I wanted to get it working. Before I spend my time with the Optimum rep on the phone and he inevitably tells me that I need to pickup a new modem, router or both, what do the red lights mean and how can I fix it?

[OOL] SB6190 - cant be detected by ool..SB6183 or newer?

I am trying to get a 6190 provisioned but cablevision is unable to see it, and after searching it seems like this is a common issue. I was thinking of SB6183 or even SB8200. Its wired because I've always seen sb6190/sb6183 suggested here besides the puma chip issue...I dont really game but I would like it to last a few years when maybe gb comes out. Is the 8200 really over kill?

[OOL] Possible DISABLE SIP ALG on Optimum router auto-config?

Hi, these past few days i've been experienced dropped incoming calls (using Magic Jack, and Optimum's router). I noted that on the Linksys community forums (years ago) people with dropped calls had luck thru disabling SIP ALG. https://community.linksys.com/t5/VoIP-Routers/MagicJack-SIP-VOIP-Device-drops-incoming-calls-behind-WRT610N/td-p/238310/page/3 The thing is, when I was on the phone with Level Two MaJack support, she mentioned to me something about tweaking SIP, which I assume to mean she tried disabling it at their end. But it failed to resolve my dropped calls (she made test calls to me). She then told me that either a firmware-update might help, or else, it's a matter of requiring a new GO device, which is a major pain. So, this may be a dumb question, but I'm wondering if there's a way to resolve it via the settings on my Optimum router (which is auto-configured), just like those guys resolved it via their Linksys Admin.settings? Thanks.

Off to Verizon

Called OOL a few days ago, spoke of how VZ offers Gigabit for 79.99/mon no contract and on a recorded line they stated it's guaranteed 3 years, asked what OOL could do for me. "Well sir, if you'd like 400mbps it's 94.99", I responded "Did you listen to a word I said? That's far from competitive". Needless to say, Gigabit is ordered, OOL is getting the boot. I also work for an IT company, I can tell you with certainty most of OOL's staff has been laid off, technicians left for in-field work have little experience (good ones seem to have been laid off as well), they can't even properly light up business static service, and take hours to do a transfer that used to take minutes of statics. Sad, very sad. Their CS used to be top notch, honestly now I got a better experience out of calling Verizon, which was shocking.

[OOL] How do I remove modem fee?

Just found out I'm paying a $4.95 modem fee for MY OWN modem. I've owned my own modem since getting OOL from Nobody Beats the Wiz over 15 years ago. How do I remove it and who do I talk to that won't screw up and cancel my OOL while removing the fee? Tech support, the OptimumHelp Twitter DM's or who? Thank you very much

Questions about Optimum's internet services.

On Optimum's website, they're showing a 100mbit Triple Play promotion for $69.99 for first year. What kind of a price hike can I expect when this promotion ends? Would I be able to jump on to better promotions? I'm currently with Verizon FIOS for internet and phone which costs $69.99 ($85 after taxes and fees), and my agreement will be up next month. If I renew it, then it's $10 more for another two years. If I cancel my phone line, then it's $82 after taxes. I'm currently a Optimum Basic w/ International package subscriber, but don't know if that plan would apply to me. If I go just for the internet, and cancel my cable + phone, it's $40. What would the price be after first year? What kind of modem does Optimum provide? Does it have 4 lan ports and WiFi like Verizon's? Or could I buy my own to avoid Optimum's $10 rental fees? If so, what's a good choice (and where do I buy one?) for a 4 port + WiFi modem?

On the lower banner on News 12 Traffic and Weather (channel 61), a message appears stating on Fridays in November at 7pm, MSG Varsity will be broadcasting on Channel 61. I guess using one of the two Sports overflow channels didn't make much sense.

Multiple installations at same location?

Is it possible to have Optimum TV and Internet both be installed at the same location, but for two different people? For example, Person A has TV in their name, and person B wants Internet in their name. Would there be any issues with that, and would person B qualify for a new customer discount if they're a first-time Optimum customer?

Tech never showed up because I "self installed" internet

I had a 2-5 appointment at my new house Tuesday to wire a new room to install a cable card into my Tivo and internet with self-provided modem. Sometime around 11 or 12, I connected my newly purchased modem to an existing wire, it asked for my account number, and I went through the motions and was able to get an internet connection. At this point, I still needed a splitter and my cable card to watch TV. Long story short, 5 o'clock rolled around, no tech, and I checked the status online and it said I had no outstanding appointments. I called and was told he was in the area and would be there shortly, 6:30 rolled around, no tech, called again, waited while they talked to dispatch again, was told he would be there shortly, and finally by 8 I had to leave, so no tech. I went to the Optimum store and got my own cable card on Wednesday and got that setup. At this point I still have a Saturday appointment because I want to make sure my internal wiring is good for my 300 mbps service, don't want to have them come out later to troubleshoot my wiring. The funny thing is my Aunt swears she saw an optimum guy outside the house around 2pm, but no one came to the door. I did get a survey asking how my tech was, I gave him straight zeros across the board. And after all my complaining, all I could get out of them was $20 for a late appointment guarantee, which the first person denied even existed, and they wanted to offer my Starz for 3 months, which I declined.

Email from Cablevision about my SBV6220

I got an email from Cablevision about my SURFboard (SBV6220) internet/voice modem. It said this... "Get the most out of your internet We want to make sure you get the full benefits of your internet service. To be able to enjoy the faster internet speed you've chosen, you need a newer, improved modem. All you need to do is visit your nearest Optimum Store and swap your old Motorola SBV6220 modem for a new one. Dont worry- there's no additional cost to you and connecting the new modem is fast and easy! To find your nearest store click here Thank you for choosing Optimum" I was automatically bumped up to 60/25 (and actually get closer to 70/25). Does this modem have a limit? Have I reached it? I'm not having any issues and I actually like the way this modem looks and has been working. Why are they trying to get me to swap out the modem? Is there another underlining reason?

Thinking of switching from Directv to Optimum TV, Questions.

Directv has updated the software GUI and it is horrible. I will probably switch to Optimum TV and utilize a Tivo Bolt or Bolt Vox. I currently have Optimum Online, no phone service as I use Vonage. I assume there is no way the TV portion can arrive with the Internet services on that one incoming cable. So when the tech adds the new cable line, can I attach that line with a barrel connector to my RG6 cable that was formerly used for my Directv service? Based on what I have read if you use a cable card there will be both standard and hd channels on separate channel numbers which is what I prefer actually. But in another room I have an old CRT and I would like to use a traditional box and tune in standard only, I read that they still offer a Scientific Atlanta standard box, is that true? If you are using a box without a cable card can you still access standard definition versions of most channels? Thanks.
