Internet Down - Need to Constantly Power Cycle Modem

I have regular Optimum Online (25/5) and an Arris TM822G modem. For the past couple of days, my Internet has been going down at least once per day. I ping the closest hop the Optimum gateway and get massive packet loss (over 50-85%). I power cycle the modem each time and it momentarily corrects the issue. I'm able to get back online and pings to the gateway see little to no packet loss. However, the Internet connection issue and packet loss re-occurs again about a day later. So for the past few days, I've been rebooting my modem at least once per day. I took a look at the modem signals and they seem fine and are in the acceptable range. Also the activity lights on the modem remain "green" throughout the drops and do not indicate any connection issues. In the past, even after a power cycle, Optimum won't assign me a new public IP unless I've had the current IP for at least for a couple of months. But in the span of these couple of days, I've gotten a handful of different public IPs. Is anyone in the lower Brooklyn area having this problem? It seems like it is an outside network issue.

Optimum wouldn't let me use my c3000

So Optimum said my netgear c3000 wouldn't work even though its a DOCSIS 3 modem. Is that really the case? What would be the current best modem to buy? How about the cheapest?

EPG missing data for CableCARD customers?

Over the weekend the TV guide in Windows Media Center started showing no data for channels in the 700's. It could be missing EPG data in other channels, but 700's is what I pay for and the only thing I'm concerned with. I ran the TV signal wizard in the off chance perhaps Altice sent Rovi an update and I didn't get it, but alas the data remains missing. This reminds me when Microsoft migrated EPG providers to Rovi, and Cablevision fucked that up for CableCARD customers. I wonder if this is happening with Altice all over again. Anyone missing EPG data? [att=1] [att=2] [att=3]

DNS issues for clients using Optonline DNS servers

have a client that cannot reach a website(110 error, can't ping). Client is in rockaway. Another client in long Island, same thing 110 timeout. Now I have other optonline business customers that do not have the issue, BUT they are using google's DNS servers in router(all sites are using the same router with same setup). the two that ARE having the issue are using Optonlines DNS servers because they have older equipment(modem and static ip box instead of single unit) and HAVE to use those DNS servers or you can't web browse. thanks, Brian

[OOL] Modem Updates last night East LI?

I'm east of Port Jeff and last night a little past 1 am my internet went out. (It went out earlier too, about 9pm but came back in in about 5 minutes). After waiting like 10 minutes troubleshooting I gave up and went to bed. (sometimes it's my computer but I had too much open so I didn't want to restart yet). This morning I get up and I have the webpage that a network cable is unplugged. I unplugged and rebooted modem then had to reboot router. I never restarted laptop, and I'm back up and running. Was there a modem update last night? (Is there a way for me to tell?). And if not does anyone know what could cause this? Also, maybe 6-8 months ago I was losing internet about the same time every night for at least a week. It was very strange. Everything would restart on it's own, no rebooting of anything. That hasn't happened in a while tho, thank goodness.

[iO] Multiple On Demand Fee?

While watching a movie from Starz on Demand, another member of my household wanted to watch it at the same time as me. When they pressed the resume button so they can see the same part as me, they were met with a message. Something about additional line fee and the options ORDER or CANCEL. Obviously, they pressed CANCEL. Just out of curiosity, how much would it have been? Makes me wonder, if I had been watching from FREE ON Demand, if that same option would have popped up.

Questions about moving from FIOS to OptOnline

Hi there, I am moving from an apartment complex which had a FIOS connection for a few years, to a new apartment complex that now only supports Optimum. I am a little bit nervous, as I really dislike Optimum's user interface when browsing for shows to watch on TV...but that's the least of my worries. I currently have 100mbps/100mbps with Verizon. It looks like Optimum offers 200mbps/35mbps as one of the base packages. That's fine by me, I don't upload a lot. We are only going to have two televisions hooked up to the service. Here are a few questions for all of the Optimum customers on here. 1a. Are you happy with the Optimum TV guide? Are there updates that change the look/feel of it? 1b. How do you like the DVR capabilities? Currently, with FIOS we have DVR in every room, and it works really well. 1c. Are there any specific model numbers of receivers we should be asking for? Is one better than the other? 2a. How reliable and fast is the internet connection provided by Optimum? Do you really see results of 200mbps/35mbps (if you have the devices that support it)? 2b. I plan on purchasing my own modem and router; I do not want to rent, and I like configuring my own stuff since I'm a techy. We are only getting TV service and internet service, not phone, as I know that makes a difference. Are there any modems to stay away from? I've read that we should just use ones that are listed on Optimum's site, but can I just use a decent one sold on Amazon? I am a gamer, downloader of large files (6 GB [gigabytes]) at times, and will have a bunch of devices connected at once. So I need something that's a tad beefy. I just need assistance finding a modem, not a router. I plan on using a powerful higher-end 802.11ac router. 2c. Any particular router configurations that should be made in order to have a better internet connection than what's provided by default? I might change DNS servers to use Google's, at: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. 3. What kind of negotiating power do we have as first time customers? We would like HBO, Showtime, and GSN, but GSN seems to be part of the Sports package, which we don't really watch. 4. How is the customer service provided by Optimum? 5. Anything additional you can add to make sure we get the best Optimum service as possible? Thank you for your help!

Need help determining signal/power levels on modem

So I have been having issues with OOL for several months now. Lets say since around December of last year. I have noticed that streams will randomly buffer, and VOIP programs will not work correctly. To be more specific, I can be in a VOIP program such as Discord and I'll be able to hear people perfectly fine. Others will hear me sounding like a robot. Web pages will stop loading and live streams will go into a buffering state. I just got off the phone with a customer rep and was told once again the problem may be my router. I am not quite sure if this is entirely true or not. So this is where I need help. This website has been great support so far with the FAQs and what not. Are the numbers from my modem any good? Modem: Arris TM1602 Router: Asus RT:AC87U w/latest Asuswrt Merlin firmware 380.68_4 (I started using Asuswrt Merlin recently to see if it would fix this problem) OOL Package: OOL Triple Play (Optimum 100) Two of the screenshots are when the issue is occurring. One of the is during normal operation. If I read the FAQ on this website correctly, Upstream power shouldn't be going as high as around 55. I managed to snag a picture as all 4 of those channels went to around 53 each. This is bad correct? Signal comes into the house through the roof on the right side of the house. I live in a 2 story cape. It then snakes through a crawlspace that is located behind all of the rooms on the second floor. Basically the line is right behind the sloped roofing. Google a cape house with the 2 dormer windows on the front. Once it reaches to the middle of the house, there is a splitter that sends signal down to the lower levels of the home. Still on the roof level crawlspace, this line continues to snake behind the rooms on the second floor. Then it goes around the left side of the house and to the front where the left dormer is at. That is where the modem is located. It is not quite ideal, but it has worked this way for many years. I have a computer hardwired into the router, and speed tests come out just fine. Also, do the customer reps know about 192.168.100.1? I spoke to one and he told me that I wasn't supposed to be able to access that IP. Basically, any of the information I am showing on this forum is invalid because they didn't want to acknowledge I had access to modem diag. 192.168.0.1 is supposed to be the IP, but that only works if you have the modem/router combo right? Correct me if I am wrong. I was told I am not supposed to be able to access modem event logs or the down/upstream signal info I have here. Note: OOL just recently gave me a TM1602. I used to have a TM822 until about a week ago when it finally came in.

[OOL] Another Speed Increase?

This afternoon, my Internet service went down for a few minutes. When service was restored a few minutes later, I did a speed test and my speed had increased from 115 average mbps to 208 average mbps. I’m subscribed to Optimum 60 and am currently under the speed increase to Optimum 100 due to the added modem fee for grandfathered customers. I logged into my account online and sure enough, it now says I have Optimum 200. Does anyone know if there is another promotional speed increase? An additional fact is that a few weeks ago I canceled my Optimum Silver TV service, DVR Plus service, and returned my cable box (in favor of now using PlayStation Vue streaming service on my Apple TV).

SB6120 suddenly getting one channel and no bonding

I have ultra in central NJ. Yesterday I noticed that I had speeds of only about 35 mbit down. Then I realized that my SB6120 was only showing one channel with, of course, no bonding. Rebooting hasn't helped. I called support and they said they'd have to get someone out here, though I've not set anything up as yet. The one channel seems to have decent levels: 38 dB SNR and 0 dBmV power. Is that more likely to be something upstream or an issue with the modem itself? Thanks!

I know my signal strength was causing my Cable Modem to drop out. Since I put back in the optimum cable modem and -7.5db filter in place. Here are my current signal strengths do you think it is safe to put back in my modem

BYO Compatible modems for Optimum Internet

Hi, I'm signing up with Optimum Internet service in the Brooklyn area and would like to provide my own modem. I"m curious whether there is a full list of compatible modems as of mid 2017 (i.e. now-ish). The sign-up page on Optimum's site lists the following models: * Arris TM822-2 port 3.0 * TM804-4 port 3.0 * TM1602-2 port 3.0 * Motorola SBV6220 3.0 Are these the *only* modems that will work with Optimum? If so, which of them is the best? If not, what others might work? I've found the following modems recommended elsewhere: * ARRIS SB6141 * ZOOM 5345 * ARRIS Surfboard 6183 Are any of them compatible? Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.

Optimum charges modem fee for customer-owned modem

Here's a news story about an Optimum customer that returned his Optimum-supplied modem in 2011, has the receipt to prove he returned it, but Optimum started charging him the modem rental fee anyway. Also, his current modem, which Optimum claims is theirs(!), looks to be an SB6120, which I don't think Optimum ever gave out. The solution was to return the SB6120 to Optimum, then buy yet another modem. http://www.nj.com/business/index.ssf/2017/10/bamboozled_why_this_cable_customer_refuses_to_pay.html You can't make this stuff up.

Email from Cablevision about my SBV6220

I got an email from Cablevision about my SURFboard (SBV6220) internet/voice modem. It said this... "Get the most out of your internet We want to make sure you get the full benefits of your internet service. To be able to enjoy the faster internet speed you've chosen, you need a newer, improved modem. All you need to do is visit your nearest Optimum Store and swap your old Motorola SBV6220 modem for a new one. Dont worry- there's no additional cost to you and connecting the new modem is fast and easy! To find your nearest store click here Thank you for choosing Optimum" I was automatically bumped up to 60/25 (and actually get closer to 70/25). Does this modem have a limit? Have I reached it? I'm not having any issues and I actually like the way this modem looks and has been working. Why are they trying to get me to swap out the modem? Is there another underlining reason?

Removing Optimum TV service....

Called last week to remove the TV service.... Very unpleasant on the phone with them, worse than any car dealer experience I've ever had. His basic statement amounted to, if you are going to stream instead of using our own TV service, you need to "preserve your TV access". And the way to "preserve your TV access" he said is to change your Internet speed from 60 to 100 or higher. He even kept saying that 100 would cost less than 60 but that did not make any sense to me, and in any event if they do any favors it's to benefit them not me. I am pretty well informed on these things (otherwise I would not be involved with this DSLR website for several years under various names) but he confused the hell out of me. Deliberately confusing and manipulative language....
