[OOL] DLINK DR-868L Optimum Router

Having read through all the topics concerning this router, I think I get the points about why Optimum wants to keep control of the way this router is configured through their "Cloud" scheme. I suppose I'm OK with the rationale for that. But a question has been nagging me. When you try to access 192.168.1.1 to get to the DLINK router login page, you get routed to router.optimum.net instead. The implication is that this is a router firmware thing. But I'd think this is really a DNS thing, not from the router firmware. Is there a DNS load or change of some kind that happens when this router is installed? I currently have a Netgear R6300 and the config for that doesn't show any kind of automatic routing of the router IP address. When I go to 192.168.1.1, I get right to the Netgear login page, so the routing has to come out of the wall like that. I have a DLINK on the way to me now which I will use to replace the Netgear (which constantly drops the 5G band, which kind of defeats the purpose of getting Ultra 50) so I was wondering how this routing to router.optimum.net is actually done. Thanks.
