Ever since the big outage that occurred about one month ago or so, I've been having intermittent internet connectivity at home. I had my own modem which was an Arris TM822 which up to that point had been working just fine for years. The issues were occurring even when I took the wireless router out of the equation. I went through a bunch of troubleshooting with Optimum Support and they basically said they'd charge me if the issue turned out to be my own equipment. So in hopes of doing some cheap troubleshooting I rented a cable modem from them. Same exact model and everything worked just fine for the 1-2 weeks I had it. I asked around these forums and was told that I could actually get any cable model if all I had was OOL. Here's the thread for reference: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32528978-OOL-Where-can-I-buy-recommended-OOL-cable-modems
I was linked to this review: https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-cable-modem/ I was ecstatic because the cable modem I wanted to get from Arris was not currently in stock so I was having trouble finding it officially. I could go through Ebay I found out later but when I found out I could possibly get an even better modem for less money I went with that option. I went with the Motorola MB7621 modem.
I got it activated and everything seemed to be working fine the first night initially. Speed tests checked out at:
Ping: 10ms
Download: 386.74 Mbps
Upload: 39.42 Mbps
Everything was looking fine so I thought. But the next day I started noticing the abrupt internet drops. I mean I couldn't even ping something as simple as 8.8.8.8. I've tried taking my router out of the equation and I just don't know what to do now. Is the issue the modem? It was brand new off Amazon.

I'm not sure if that's good or not. There is an option to set Downstream Frequency Setting. I'm not sure what to set that to if anything at all.
And there is a log page where I do see some errors but I can't quite make out what they mean.
I'm reluctant to lease another cable modem from Optimum at this point. But I'm also wondering if something weird is going on in my neighborhood or if it's specifically happening because I'm using my own modem. Does anyone have any addition troubleshooting steps? I still can probably return this cable modem at this point and I'm willing to do just that if necessary in place of another modem.
