[OOL] Altice Gigabit Service is Horrible

I am or was in the process of switching over from Verizon 1Gbit service to Altice 1Gbit fiber. The experience was a quick reminder of one of the reasons I left Optimum in the first place. The installer was at my home a week ago. He ran the fiber run from the pole to my router/modem/ONT or what ever you want to call it. About an hour after he left I lost GPON connectivity. They scheduled a tech to come out the following day to re-splice the fiber. Later on in the day I begun testing the speeds and noticed I was only getting about half of what I signed up for. The speed test were done using Optimums servers. I spoke with technical support and they ran their own test and confirmed there was an issue with my connection. I was told I was going to have to wait a few days until they could get another tech to my residence. I received a call prior to the time the technician was supposed to arrive saying they weren't able to make my appointment due to bad weather. Ok, no problem. I understand. My repair gets pushed up another 4 days. With the limited connectivity I do have I noticed that I was not able to access my security system externally. Again, no big deal I will just reconfigure the required ports on my new service. After logging into Altices router setting interface (if you can even call it that) I see a total of maybe 5 things I can configure on my router. I'm basically able to modify the DCHP start and end for ip distribution and my wifi passwords. That's it!! No firewall settings, no port forwarding, no blacklists, no ip reservations. Nothing! I thought this was clearly a mistake or something was not provisioned correctly. I spoke to technical support again to find out what was going on. I was informed that they are blocking access to any advanced settings on the router (That IM paying $10 a month for)! This experience has been so extremely disappointing I'm basically going to swallow the additional costs of keeping my Verizon service. Verizon does have their own issues but compared to what I have experienced from Altice I think they may warrant the extra coin. Buyer beware.
