Quick question about buying a modem for OOL

Hey there guys, It's been some time since Altice took over, and I was in sort of a wait-and-see mode to see what would change over the last few months. Besides the new modem fee though, I haven't really noticed anything out of the ordinary -- that is, my service has been more or less the same as before, which was pretty good/reliable. For some reason I still have 200mpbs; I thought this was supposed to be a couple-month promotion, but I feel like I've had this forever now. Not that I'm complaining, of course, but if they decided to make it permanent I must've missed that announcement. Anyway, at this point I'm feeling like I should probably just go ahead and buy my own modem to get rid of this silly fee. I've never done such a thing before though, so I'm not entirely sure about the step-by-step process. To start off with, I checked the sticky thread here and it looks like my choices would be either the SB6183 or the TM822; I don't have OV, only OOL, and I do game, and we have multiple devices hitting the network constantly, so latency and reliability are important to me. The TM1602 is worrying with those comments about latency issues. Are these still the recommended modems, or are there updated/newer versions I should look at? I think there's an SB6190 or something, at least. I also have my own router. Second, once I do buy a modem, what's the process like for swapping it in? I don't imagine I just plug it in place of my existing modem and everything works. Do I have to call a specific number to have them 'register' the new modem, and de-register the old one? Finally, do I then need to ship this old modem back to them? Do they provide prepaid shipping, or what? I don't know of any Optimum stores near me. Thanks for any advice!
