In Dutchess County, have had Triple Play for couple of years. FIOS is not in my section of Hyde Park. I did like it in Bayside, NY years back, when I switched from Time-Warner.
Modest TV user, no DVR, no sports. Do like History, Animal, Fox, some old programs and movies, a few programs on network fare.
Two TVs, actual TV is usually OK, service is feh, one TV is down for awhile (complicated) and unhappy to see bill creep up to about $160 with box rentals and such. And DirecTV has nice potential advantages, based on what we have seen here and there. More HD channels is a biggie, generally nicer company environment.
DirecTV however has no direct way take over Internet or Phone.
So DirecTV has nice $200 (promotion) or$ 300 (from cell part of AT&T) VISA bonus. That more than negates any concerns about the 2-year contract. For my two TVs DirectTV says $42+7 + tax, no other charges.
Ironicallly, DirecTV on the phone started giving me Verizon HSI-DSL ($29 charge, involving self-install) for the change on Internet and Phone away from Optimum. Later, Verizon laughed, they accepted the order but said that they thought that connection was ended a year ago (since they push their FIOS TV).
However, even though the Internet through Optimum is about $10 more than Verizon, I think I would want to keep their Internet for awhile, at a $65 package so my totals will be about $130 with tax. However, they would charge $30 absurd charge for phone, which Verizon includes automatically.
Are my thoughts sound? Any tweaking?
What could I do with the home phone? The porting, as to Verizon, would be nice, and I might have to come up with a plan B if I keep Optimum for Internet. Pay extra, or let the phone die for awhile, or port somewhere else (where?)
Thanks!
