I have a few things I can pass along, if anyone is interested.
The fiber buildout started before their announcement. In fact, Altice likely was thinking about it from the top before the purchase finished as they did their homework and know that Cablevision has fiber very deep in my parts of their network. There will be some areas lit and live before end of 2017. As far as where and when, I do not know anything yet.
16 channels down - Not likely to happen at this point, except in rare instances. No sense in wasting time and money when a majority of the network performs very well. While some of you seem to complain about not getting full speeds, greater than 95% of the network can handle it and users will not know the difference.
Speed upgrades - Not likely to happen again on the DOCSIS network. 300Mbps and slower will be more than enough, even 5 years from now, to stream anything in every home. My contact said the feeling is that if you need that speed you can get it since it's network wide.
50Mbps up - I have no new info, other than it is now 100% official and available for any business account that is 200/300. It is possible this will only be for business accounts for now. For all I know it goes live on residential this very second or 2 months from now, but I have no new news.
3/10 - quick update. Regarding 50Up for residential, I have no other info currently. Regarding fiber, phase 1 of their project will start in q2 of this year. They have decided that instead of getting the entire network fiber to the home ready, and waiting 3 to 5 years before that is done, they will do phases so users can start migrating onto the FTTH network. As they move more users to FTTH congestion will continue to go down on the legacy network, and they will begin to offer faster down/up speeds on DOCSIS. I would "guess" the 500Meg tier for DOCSIS will not happen until later this year. Phase 1 will be Nassau county and possibly Bergen county. In terms of towns, I am unable to comment.
4/18 - Nothing major, just to squash some "misinformation" so to speak. Testing is still on-going in the lab, for some employee's in the Hicksville area, as well as NJ and a upstate. There is no set launch date yet, for the first consumers. Last I was told June was a target, either for launch or to get a broader number of testers, but nothing concrete yet. Optimum 400 launched, as you know, in some areas. Towns are part of 2 to 3 month upgrades. So your town might be in a June - August, Sept - Nov, ect. time frame. Most should be done by early 2018. NG-PON2, to answer some other questions I have been asked. I can't divulge anymore right now.
4/21 - 450Mbps down for business coming very soon.
