I currently have FIOS Triple play with 75/75 internet and their Ultimate HD package (basically everything with hbo/sho/starz/epix). I was paying 225. I investigated dropping cable and getting PSVue after doing a trial and liking the interface?
FIOS offered me about $100 for internet and phone ($90+ taxes and fees). They did give me $175 for my current package which I took as a 2 year deal ($110 + boxes/DVR + taxes and fees). It's nuts that basically they are charging me only 20 bucks extra for my cable package.
The only way for me to go internet/phone only would be to jump ship and go to Optimum. The package they offer is 100/35 for $65 plus taxes and fees. With the playstation vue package I want it would about $130-40 total for the package. This would be a 30-40 dollar a month savings with less channels than I'm getting now (basically cinemax/hbo only).
Before anyone asks it's pretty impossible for an existing FIOS customer to get any of the nice new customer deals (or anything close to it) like the $70 gigabit internet. Also, dropping the phone would only save $10 bucks.
I've heard conflicting comments about the speed of Optimum internet. Right now, I pretty much get the speed I'm promised on FIOS. Is it worth switching? I feel like there's a lot of promise with these internet TV packages and with competition prices will go down. I just don't want to go through the hassle of switching if I'm going to be disappointed.
