When I moved into my last apt 6 years ago I had my own line run for optimum. (phone first then added internet a few months later). Someone new moved in and they ran A SECOND line, charged her all the install fees, and her first bill is over $200!! She got tv and phone. (she made it sound like the guy talked her into the tv, she wasn't going to get it originally). I moved out a year ago and my bill was up to date (it has to be to move anyway).
I told her how to straighten it out, told her to get rid of tv, get internet, keep phone long enough to activate a Basic Talk box and port her number, then cancel the OV. (her daughter wants her to have internet). I also told her to find out WHY they ran a second line when there was a perfectly good 3-yr old line there and to get her money back for it. So they charged her a line install fee, and the install fee for both iO and OV. SMH.
Why on EARTH did they run a SECOND line to the apt?? Not to mention she was told she couldn't port her number from her old place. It was a total fiasco. Granted, the new tenant is elderly and her and her kids don't know anything about how technology works, but i honestly have never seen anything like this happen.
It's sad that there are so many people who don't know about technology and they get screwed by optimum every day because they don't know questions to ask and what to watch for. And optimum makes millions off them. This woman is a prime example. :(
