About 3 weeks ago, we started getting intermittent OOL and OV outages (both at the same time). The outages would last anywhere from a minute to 15 minutes and more (after 15 minutes, we'd get frustrated and either switch to the cruddy Optimum WiFi connection in our area or just give up and read a book). No joy from reboots.
The TV never goes out when the internet and voice go out. No TV problems at all.
So I emailed Customer Service via Optimum WiFi. Major props - they got back to me within 10 minutes and had preformed a line test, which showed a weak signal coming in). We scheduled a service visit for that Sunday (on a holiday weekend - again, what service!).
Tech came. Of course, everything was working fine at the time, so his line test showed a good signal. But to be thorough, he checked all of the connections and swapped out the modem for a new one.
And then that evening, the internet and phone went out again! And every day since then. There's no rhyme or reason concerning time of day; it's random.
So, any advice? I've read elsewhere that adding a multi-port signal amplifier and removing all splitters could help. But my wife is pretty against her accident-prone husband from crawling in the crawl space of the attic to find the initial input wire and running multiple wires everywhere.
But I'm not even sure an amplifier would work.
Anyway, here's my current set-up:
Long Island, NY area (Central Suffolk County)
Arris TM822 modem
Co-Op (so long lead wire run from the outside box)
Lead wire split in two - one running to cablebox/TV, the other then split to a second cablebox/TV and the modem.
I appreciate any input. I'd hate for a tech to have to come out again, especially seeing as everything could be working when he does!
