I recently moved in with my fiancee and we replaced her DSL service with internet from Optimum. They "gave" us their "SmartRouter" and and Arris TM822 "Cable Modem"
I don't like not being able to locally control my router so I replaced the "SmartRouter" with a Dlink Dir-645 router. The problem I have is my Windows 8 system won't talk to the DIR-645 router. I have to boot it into Ubuntu for it work via wireless. The Windows 8 system will talk wirelessly to the "SmartRouter" when I was using it
So now I have these two DLINK routers along with a Netgear N300 Sam Knows router. I also have a Dlink dgs-2208 Gigabit switch.
The routers and cable modem are in the basement. On the 1st floor is an Amazon Fire Stick that has stuttering issues.
I need help configuring the routers to achieve the following goals
1a) Allow me to add the "SmartRouter" back to the network WITHOUT allowing traffic on it to get back to my local network.
1b) Put the Netgear Router back into action because Sam Knows keeps asking me to.
2) Alleviate the stuttering on the Fire TV Stick
3) Get my Windows 8 system back on the wireless network
4) Switch to Static IP's and run my own DNS on the internal network
5) Start learning IPv6
I thought of putting a wireless router on the 1st floor to see if the stuttering issue was wifi related but my fiance will not allow me to drill any holes and the cable service comes into the basement.
